Application for Copy of Birth Certificate

Department Of Home Affairs Republic Of South Africa

Full birth certificates are issued upon request to persons who are South African citizens and whose births were duly registered in South Africa. These persons have obtained their citizenship as follows:

1. Birth in South Africa to South African citizens (by birth, naturalization) or foreigners who have valid permanent residence or work permits in South Africa.

2. Birth registration for those who were born abroad to South African citizens.

Checklist of Documents to be Submitted:

Application has to be filed IN PERSON with the followings BY APPOINTMENT:

  • Completed form DHA-154 in BLACK pen and in BLOCK letters. (Form available in the Consular Section)

  • South African valid passport(s) of person concerned (original and copy).

  • South African ID of person concerned, if available (original and/or copy).

  • South African birth certificate of person concerned, if available (original and/or copy).

  • Applicant’s passport & ID (original and copy).

  • Non-refundable application fee of HKD49- in cash payment.

Processing Time:

Civic application takes 6-9 months (-/+) for processing by Department of Home Affairs in South Africa
